Smith wins by five at Simi Valley City Amateur

Westlake Village resident posts pair of 6-under-par 65s at Simi Hills Golf Course.

Westlake Village’s Aaron Smith won the Simi Valley City Amateur Championship over the weekend at Simi Hills Golf Course, shooting a pair of 6-under-par 65s to post a 12-under total and beat the field by five strokes. Smith won $500 in scrip.

Chris Russo, also of Westlake Village, began the second round tied with Smith but could only muster a 1-under-par 70 and finished second along with Thousand Oaks’ Paul Misko. Russo and Misko each won $300 in scrip.

Defending champion Russell Boring finished tied for sixth at 4 under.

Newbury Park’s Mason Atkins won the A flight with a 150 gross/138 net score.

Kurt Hocker of Los Angeles won the B flight with a 152 gross/132 net score.

Valencia’s Gonzo Paigen posted a 161 gross/137 net total to won the C flight.

Each of the A, B and C flight winners garnered $300 in scrip.
