Speaking through a blog post on his website, Phil Mickelson said the team of doctors working on wife Amy’s breast cancer believe they detected the cancer in its early stages. “We have a wonderful team of doctors helping us and it is believed that we caught this early. We are anxiously waiting for a number of test results that will help guide us in the best possible direction,” wrote Phil. The world’s No. 2 player, Mickelson is taking an indefinite leave of absence from PGA Tour competition. It is unclear when he will return. The Rancho Santa Fe resident expressed gratitude to all players and fans who have recognized his family’s ordeal. During Saturday’s third round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, a “Pink Out” has been organized by tournament officials to raise breast cancer awareness. Mickelson won the tournament last year. “It is hard to describe how much the outpouring of support has meant to us,” Mickelson said. “When we heard about the Tour Wives, PGA Tour, and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial organizing the ‘Pink Out,’ we both had tears rolling down our faces. That is such an incredibly thoughtful gesture, not only for Amy, but for the 200,000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. I know it will mean a lot to them, too.” Visit PhilMickelson.com to view the complete blog post. ALSO SEE: Phil Mickelson's wife, Amy, diagnosed with breast cancer |
