Oxnard’s Andrew Perez continued his hot streak over the weekend, winning the Simi Valley City Amateur Golf Championship in a playoff at Simi Hills Golf Course. Perez, who now has four city championship crowns this summer, defeated Newhall resident Johnny MacArthur on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. This victory follows triumphs at events in Oxnard, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Perez (64-70) and MacArthur (66-68), a member of the men’s golf team at Pepperdine, finished the 36-hole stroke-play event tied at 8-under-par 134. Both players made par on the first playoff hole, while Perez seized the title with a birdie on the second sudden-death hole. Jake Katz of Thousand Oaks finished third at 139, while Chatsworth’s James Holley and Camarillo’s Johnny Ruiz tied for fourth at 140. The 29th edition of the event broke new ground this year with the addition of junior and senior divisions. Chatsworth resident Jeff Hooper won the gross senior crown with a score of 3-over-par 145. Brad Halfon (Westlake Village) finished second at 146. Valencia’s William Picketts seized the net title with an 8-under-par 134. Alex Kim of Oak Park reigned in the junior division with a score of 5-over-par 147, while Simi Valley’s Reno Gregory was second at 149. Results from other flights at the Simi Valley City Amateur Golf Championship: • In the A flight, John Austin of Bakersfield was the gross champion with a 9-over-par 151, besting Lakewood’s Timothy Kelly (152) and Simi Valley’s David Stitt (153). Ed Gagnon of Simi Valley was the net champion with a 139. • In the B flight, Doug Boyle of Agoura Hills won with a 156 total. Jay Wetherald (Canoga Park) and Michael Lindstrom (West Hills) tied for second at 158. Simi Valley’s Chris Ferguson was the net champion with a 131.
