Andrew Putnam, an incoming senior on the men’s golf team at Pepperdine, won the Pacific Coast Amateur on Friday, July 30 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
Putnam was the only player in the field to post four under-par rounds in the 72-hole stroke-play event, shooting 68-69-70-70 on the par-71 layout for a 7-under-par total.
Santee resident Daniel Miernicki, a University of Oregon men’s golfer who’s established himself as one of the nation’s top collegiate players, finished second at 3-under.
UCLA men’s golf team member Gregor Main tied for fifth at 1-under par.
With roots dating back to 1901, the Pacific Coast Amateur is one of the most venerable West Coast tournaments. Past champions have included PGA Tour winners Ben Crane, Jason Gore and Billy Mayfair.
