After some concern that the San Diego wildfires might postpone the playing of the Nationwide Tour Championship, the event will go on as planned at Lakeside’s Barona Creek Golf Club. “In many respects, it’s the right thing to do,” said Tom Wilson, the executive director of the tournament’s local organizing body, the Century Club. “It’s a good way to start the healing process.” One alteration to the event, which begins Thursday and runs through Sunday, is free admission. Also, Wednesday’s Nationwide Insurance Pro-Am was cancelled to accommodate a jumbled preparation schedule. The PGA Tour and the Century Club are also in the process of devising programs to raise funds for causes related to fire damage. The top 60 players on the Nationwide Tour money list will compete at the Tour Championship, and the top 25 at the conclusion of the tournament will earn their PGA Tour cards for 2008.
