![]() Part of the reason Brittany Kelley started GIVE is the difficult times facing local charities (PHOTO: Eddie Meeks). Black Gold Golf Club’s new GIVE Initiative lets golfers donate to a charity of their choice. All the golfer needs to do is make a tee time between noon and 2 p.m. on weekdays and ask for the “GIVE rate.” Pro shop staff handles the rest. The GIVE rate at the Yorba Linda layout is $67 for a round typically priced at $87. With each GIVE tee time, a $12 donation is set aside for a non-profit organization that’s registered in the program. “Ninety percent of the tournaments scheduled at Black Gold are fund-raisers by booster groups for local charities such as Children’s Hospital of Orange County and St. Jude Hospital,” noted Brittany Kelley, Black Gold’s director of sales and marketing who launched the initiative. “It’s a really tough time for them, with some corporate sponsorships that they counted on having dried up or dwindled.” A book profiling the participating local charities will be available in the pro shop for golfers to select their beneficiary. Golfers may request to sign up their favorite charity for the program by e-mailing GIVE@blackgoldgolf.com or calling (714) 961-0253, ext. 154. The few restrictions on the program are that tee times must be made within seven days in advance and no other special discounts, special rates, frequent-player cards or certificates can be used. The current weekday GIVE hours (that’s Monday through Friday, noon to 2 p.m.) will be available through November 1. With the end of daylight savings time, the hours will change from 10 a.m. to noon. “There are so many different types of causes that can benefit,” Kelley said. “When you think about it, you can do amazing stuff with just a little giving.” For more information on Black Gold Golf Club, call (714) 961-0060 or visit blackgoldgolf.com. |
