What’s new: In addition to a variety of ticket packages, new in ’09 is the Executive Special. For $200, a patron is entitled to: valet parking (first come, first served); access to the Enclave and Century Club Pavilion Tent and new viewing box at the 14th green on the South; buffet luncheon; and $20 in Buick Bucks. Notable: This is the first time a major professional event has been held at Torrey Pines since last June’s U.S. Open. Major champions and world top-five players Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington are expected to compete, while fellow major champs Angel Cabrera, Retief Goosen and Davis Love III will round out a quality field. Also count on hearing plenty of “Boo”-birds — Boo Weekley will be there. Did you know: Since 1996, every winner of the Buick has been a major champion. Besides Woods, that list includes John Daly (’04), Jose Maria Olazabal (’02), Mickelson (’00, ’01), Scott Simpson (’98), Mark O’Meara (’97) and Love (‘96). |
