Scott Almquist of Coto de Caza and Kevin Fitzgerald of Riverside won co-medalist honors yesterday at the California State Amateur Championship at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club and La Jolla Country Club. Almquist and Fitzgerald both shot a 141 total during stroke play and began match play competition today. Almquist, the number one seed, defeated number 32 seed Sam Yi of Riverside 2-and-1, while Fitzgerald, the number two seed, defeated number 31 seed Robert Funk 3-and-2. Earlier this month, Almquist won the Professional-Scratch Championship with partner Rick Booth, PGA posting an 8-under-par 62, while Fitzgerald earned Big West All-Conference honors this season as a member of the men’s golf team at UC Riverside.
