The 99th California State Amateur Championship will be held at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club and La Jolla Country Club in San Diego on June 21-26. The event will be shared between the two courses for the first two days of stroke play. Then, the top 32 players will compete in a match play tournament at Rancho Santa Fe, with all matches 18 holes prior to the 36-hole final. This will be the first time the event will be held in San Diego County. For the first 85 years it was held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, after which the California Golf Association decided to host the championship at different golf courses throughout California. Last year’s champion, Geoff Gonzalez, a member of the men’s golf team at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, was the first competitor in 15 years to win both the stroke- and match-play portions.
