Cameron Tringale, a native of Laguna Niguel who graduated from Georgia Tech University earlier this year, has been selected as one of the final two competitors for the United States in the Walker Cup, a biennial team competition pitting a squad of American amateur golfers against one composed of those from Great Britain and Ireland. U.S. team captain Buddy Marucci made the announcement.
Tringale is the second Southern California native on the 12-player U.S. roster, joining Murrieta’s Rickie Fowler, who was among the 10 initial selections.
Tringale was an accomplished player at Georgia Tech and has said he will turn pro in the near future. Participating in the Walker Cup figures to be one of his final competitive forays as an amateur. He made it to the round of 16 in match play at the U.S. Amateur last week.
The 2009 Walker Cup competition will be held September 12-13 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. Visit the official website for more information.
