Dan Forsman birdied the first sudden-death playoff hole to beat Don Pooley for the AT&T Champions Classic title at Valenica Country Club in northern Los Angeles County. Forsman shot a six-under-par 66 in Sunday’s final round, the lowest score of the day. Pooley had a chance to win the tournament in regulation but failed to convert a birdie bid on the 18th hole. This year marked the sixth time the event had to be settled in extra holes, which also has been the case for each of the last three years. Joey Sindelar began the final round in the lead but ended tied for fourth after a closing one-over-par 73. Defending Champions Tour Player of the Year Bernhard Langer posted a seven-under-par total and finished tied for eighth, his fifth top-10 in as many starts in 2009.
