NEWPORT BEACH—Scattered showers are supposed to come in earnest beginning Saturday afternoon, a forecast which has prompted Champions Tour officials to move the second-round tee times at the Toshiba Classic up two hours. Competitors will begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees at Newport Beach Country Club Saturday as opposed to the regularly scheduled start time of 10:30 a.m. The rain is supposed to dissipate by Sunday afternoon, around the time the 54-hole event is scheduled to conclude assuming there are no delays. Inclement weather has been an issue in the past at Toshiba — in 2000, heavy rains forced the tournament to be shortened to 36 holes. Bob Tway, Mark Wiebe and Chein Soon Lu are tied for the lead after the first round. Check back to Southland Golf throughout the weekend for more coverage of the Toshiba Classic.
