 Beginning the final round with a two-shot lead over Tom Lehman and Chien Soon Lu, Couples acknowledges the crowd on the first tee (PHOTO: Eddie Meeks).  The laid-back atmosphere of Newport Beach Country Club suited the cool Couples just fine (PHOTO: Mark Susson).  Aside from feeling a bit of tension after an approach shot on the 16th hole during the first round, Couples did not report any significant back problems throughout the 54-hole event. Back problems have been a recurring issue throughout his professional career (EM).  Large galleries routinely had their sights set on Couples, whose presence helped generate one of the best attendance records in event history despite cold and often rainy weather (EM).  Couples strolls the fairway with longtime caddie Joe LaCava (MS).  What's up? A four-shot win, that's what's up (MS).  Couples offers a contemplative smirk before hitting his birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole. Moments earlier, he hit his approach shot well to the right of the green but hit a pitch safely onto the green, about 20 feet from the cup. His lightheartedness preceding this putt, as he made it for birdie to conclude in style (MS).  Two out of three ain't bad: Couples poses with the trophy, his second in three career starts on the Champions Tour (MS).
