BY ELI MILLERPublished: July, 2010

Reigning PGA National Senior Player of the Year Chris Starkjohann added another trophy to his collection over Independence Day weekend, capturing the San Diego PGA Section’s Senior Stroke Play Championship Monday at Lakeside’s Barona Creek Golf Club.

The Oceanside resident shot 71-67 for a 6-under-par total in the 36-hole event, besting Gary Sowinski by three strokes. Starkjohann's final round included six birdies and only one bogey.

They were the only competitors in the 16-man field to shoot under-par at Barona Creek. Starkjohann garnered a $600 winner’s check, while Sowinski pocketed $450.

Starkjohann, who works with Torrey Pines Gold Club and Outings and teaches at Hodges Golf Center, is the only player ever to win the PGA National Senior Player of the Year honor three times.
