![]() Will Ferrell (left) and Craig Pollard make a difference for college-bound cancer survivors. Ferrell once again will serve as celebrity host of the 17th annual Cancer for College Golf Classic at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego on Friday, September 24. The charity, which provides college scholarships to young cancer survivors, was the brainchild of Craig Pollard, a two-time cancer survivor and double-amputee. Pollard and Ferrell were fraternity brothers while at USC and have been good friends ever since. Ferrell even sheepishly recalls his first contribution to the charity at its inaugural event in 1993. “I’m embarrassed to say I think I sent a check for 50 bucks,” Ferrell said. “I remember I couldn’t be there, but I saw what Craig went through and wanted to support him. “Cancer for College is such a pure charity and a noble cause, I’m honored to help. The stories that these kids share and what they have gone through to get to college is inspiring. They all want to make the world a better place.” The Cancer for College Golf Classic has limited playing spots still available along with tickets for the evening awards dinner and live auction hosted by Ferrell and golf commentator David Feherty. All golf packages include entry into the awards dinner. VIP guest packages receive a private meet-and-greet with Ferrell and a special goodie bag from event sponsors K-Swiss and Monster. “In case you don’t know, I’m kind of a big deal,” said Ferrell. “My golf skills are impressive to say the least. Children from far off countries sing songs celebrating my shotmaking skills. Anyone who supports this cause and participates in this event is in for a real treat of the senses.” For more information or to register, call (760) 599-5096 or visit cancerforcollege.org.
