Murrieta native Rickie Fowler has made it to the round of 16 at the 84th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. Fowler will face off against Sam Lyons (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) this afternoon in the second of two matches contested today.

Fowler tied for second in the 36-hole stroke play portion, finishing with a 2-under-par 140, four shots behind medalist Nick Taylor (Canada), who went 66-70 to come in at 136.

In the first round of match play, Wednesday, Fowler dispatched James Erkenbeck (San Diego), 5 & 4. In his match this morning, he topped Alton Anderson Jr. (Thousand Oaks) 4 & 3.

Joining Fowler in the round of 16 will be Taylor, who cruised through both of his first and second round matches. Taylor bested Craig Cyr (Concord, N.H.) in the first round 6 & 4, and toppled Brett Munson (Louisville, Ky.) 8 & 6 this morning.
