Baek, Pavon, and Moore lead way at FCG National Tour event at Carlton Oaks

Victories secure spots on FCG North-South Team Play Tournament in San Diego.

BY CHRISTIAN TAYLOR HILLPublished: September, 2009

The Future Champions Golf Fall Series Opener kicked off this past weekend at Carlton Oaks Golf Course with Rancho Bernardo High School senior Todd Baek claiming victory in the boys championship division and Paulo Pavon (San Ysidro) earning first place in the girls championship.

Baek’s two-round total of 141 bested second-place finisher Eugene Wang by five strokes. Scott Martin (Escondido) rounded out the top three, completing the tournament with a 150.

Shifting to the girls, Pavon shot out to an early lead and held on with rounds of 77-86 to claim the title over San Diego’s Stacey Rayo by four strokes. Shannon Oh of Oceanside placed third shooting a 168, one shot behind Rayo.

In the Boys 13-15 division, Tyler Moore (Escondido) pulled out a come-from-behind victory, recovering from an opening-round 77 to finish with a tournament-low 5-under-par 67. Moore’s 144 was enough to hold off the 2009 Boys 11-12 Junior World champion Corey Shaun (San Diego), who shot rounds of 74-71 for a final score of 145.

With the victories, Baek, Pavon, and Moore all qualified to play in the second annual North-South Team Play in San Diego. The Ryder Cup-style event will include 12 players to represent FCG in San Diego on January 9-10.

Other division winners include Girls 11-14 Haley Moore (Escondido), Boys 11-12 Norman Xiong, Boys 10-and-under Blake Petchel (Temecula), and Girls 10-and-under Waverly Whiston (San Diego).

All division winners automatically qualify to play in the 2010 FCG World Championship. For full results on this tournament, visit futurechampionsgolf.com.
