Jonah Texeira may be only 13, but he has big goals. The Northridge golfer opted to play in the most competitive division of the Future Champions Golf National Tour event at Sycuan Resort’s Oak Glen golf course in El Cajon in October and wound up winning the boys championship division, which was comprised of older golfers. He shot a two-round score of 154, beating Ikaika Velasco of San Diego, Christopher Derr of Spring Valley and Jake Meloche of Coronado by three strokes. In the girls championship, Paola Pavon of San Ysidro shot an opening-round 79 and held on for a two-stroke victory over Fernanda Villegas of Ensenada, Mexico. Coronado’s Cara Barker finished third, 12 strokes behind. In the boys 13-15 division, Jake Sconavacco of Rancho Santa Fe won on the first playoff hole to outlast Dylan Wu of Medford, Ore., and Max Alcorn of Poway. Isabella Salant rolled to victory in the girls 13-14 division, as the Encinitas resident bested Haley Moore of Escondido by 11 strokes. Other victors included Norman Xiong, who won the boys 9-10 division, Blake Petchel of Temecula, who won the boys 10-and-under, and Waverly Whiston, who won the girls 10-and-under. Whiston, who graduates from high school in 2017, bested Karah Sanford of Hidden Meadows, who will graduate in 2019, by three strokes.
