San Diego-based Future Champions Golf has been inspiring junior golfers to master the game over the past four years, as evidenced by the 600 members who have joined the organization, said founder and PGA pro Chris Smeal. Programs include instruction focusing on short- and long-term goals, and high schoolers can fine tune their game at the two-day Collegiate Prep Camp or five-day Chris Smeal Golf Schools. Camps cater to beginning golfers with drills and games, and there are tournaments for golfers ages 4 to 14. Many juniors have graduated to compete on the Future Champions Golf Challenge Tour, sponsored by Callaway Golf. The tour just added the Callaway Boys and Girls All-Star divisions for accomplished players. “The division is 18 and under so the fields will be large and carry a strong national ranking,” Smeal said. Next February, Future Champions Golf will host its first world championship for qualifying youths 18 and under. Each event draws college coaches, and stats are sent to a collegiate database so players will get noticed. “Our goal is to help the most kids succeed,” Smeal said. Visit futurechampionsgolf.com. |
