In his first seven Future Collegians World Tour events during the 2009-10 season, Jonah Texeira assembled a consistent streak that included two top-three finishes and six top-10 efforts. Texeira broke through for a win in his eighth FCWT tournament, the season-ending National Championship, outlasting Victor Doka and Oliver Vaidis in a three-hole playoff at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., over Memorial Day weekend. A 14-year-old Los Angeles resident, Texeira opened the 54-hole event with rounds of 77-72 and began the final round six strokes behind Vaidis. But Texeira closed with a 5-under-par 67, which included four birdies on the final six holes, to tie Vaidis and Doka at even par. A sudden-death playoff began on the par-5 10th hole, with both Texeira and Doka advancing thanks to birdies while Vaidis was eliminated with a par. Texeira and Doka then made par on No. 18 to bring the playoff back to the 10th, where Texeira clinched the title with another birdie. Before the win, Texeira’s best finish on the FCWT for 2009-10 was a second-place showing at the Mission Hills Gary Player Classic in Rancho Mirage. Texeira also has excelled on the San Diego-based Future Champions Tour, winning last year's National Tour event at Sycuan Resort and finishing second at the San Diego Junior Amateur Championship this January.
