![]() Chin was an All-American at UC-Irvine. Chin, who completed her All-American career at UC-Irvine earlier this year, posted a 7-under-par 65 Thursday on the Champions Course at LPGA International to vault into a tie for the lead with Nikki Garrett at 6-under par. Chin had begun the day in a tie for 29th after opening with a 1-over-par 73 on the Legends Course in the five-round, 90-hole event. After graduating from college, the Mission Viejo native played five events on the Duramed Futures Tour, with her best finish a tie for 16th at the Alliance Bank Golf Classic in August. Here’s how other players with Southern California ties are doing in the final: • Carolina Llano, a former member of the women’s golf team at Pepperdine University, is tied for eighth at 2-under par. • Dewi Claire Schreefel, who won the 2006 NCAA individual championship as a sophomore at USC is tied for 20th at even par along with Christine Song of Fullerton. • Orange native Erica Blasberg started out solid with an even-par 72 in the first round but struggled to a 78 in the second round. She is tied for 69th. Visit the LPGA Tour’s website for a complete leaderboard. The top 20 players in the event will earn priority status in Category 11 for the LPGA Tour in 2010, essentially the equivalent of full-exempt status. In the event of a tie for the 20th position, there will be a playoff. After 72 holes, the 106-player field will be cut to the low-70 players and ties. |
