Jeff Wilson, a Northern Californian who began playing more events in the Southland last year, captured the 50th annual Santa Barbara City Championship by four strokes over Levi Garcia. The 54-hole event was held from Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25 at Santa Barbara Golf Club. Wilson, who won the 2008 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, opened a five-shot lead after two rounds and held on with a comfortable two-under-par 68 on the last day. The fact that Garcia finished second is impressive considering he opened with a 78 — a pair of subsequent 63s brought him significantly up the leaderboard. |
