Jennifer Song is knocking at the door of the LPGA Tour. The former USC standout, who left school to turn professional earlier this year, picked up her second Duramed Futures Tour victory over the weekend at the Greater Richmond Golf Classic. Song defeated Jenny Shin of Torrance with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Beginning the final round of the 54-hole event in a seven-way tie for the lead, Song and Shin each shot 6-under-par 66s at Richmond Country Club in Virginia to extend the proceedings. On the first extra hole — the par-4 18th — both made par, but playing that hole again, Song made a 20-foot birdie putt to clinch the win and a $14,000 prize. The 20-year-old Song now stands fourth on the money list with $51,375, meaning she is almost assured of gaining some form of status on the LPGA Tour for 2011. The top 10 players on the Futures Tour each year gain LPGA cards, and with only one event left — the Price Chopper Tour Championship in early September — Song seems in great shape to attain one. In June, the 2009 winner of both the U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links titles was victorious in her first professional start at the Tate & Lyle Players Championship. Shin, a former standout on the girls golf team at Torrance High School, garnered $10,000 for her second-place finish and stands fifth on the money list. The 17-year-old won the Futures Tour’s International at Concord in July. For complete results from the Greater Richmond Golf Classic, visit the Futures Tour website.
