San Clemente’s Talega Golf Club has introduced Surf ‘n’ Turf Summer Camp, where juniors can learn surfing in the morning and golf in the afternoon. The program is $595 for a five-day session, with the option to learn one of the sports for $299. The ocean fun begins each day at the nearby famous surf beaches of San Onofre at 8 a.m., then campers are driven to Talega for golf starting at 1 p.m. The first session begins Monday, June 22, and sessions run through the end of August. Talega also is home to the Aloha Academy of Golf. Headed by PGA Director of Instruction Randy Chang, the program is offered year-round and allows juniors to learn the game at one of five levels. Golf clubs are provided to those who need them. While the first two levels get juniors ready to play, the other levels focus on helping them become competitive on the course. Each session is $150. Program participants also have the chance to play for free at Talega during late twilight when accompanied by a paying adult.
