Kris Butkys of Thousand Oaks won a pair of prominent local amateur events in November — the Carlsbad City at the Crossings at Carlsbad in San Diego County and the High Desert Amateur at Green Tee Golf Course in Victorville. On November 7-8, Butkys shot a 7-under-par 137 at the par-72 Crossings layout to win the overall net title. Jim Munyon won the overall net flight and Richard Trejo captured the overall senior flight also with scores of 137. Two weeks later at the High Desert Amateur on November 21-22, Butkys shot a 4-under 68 in the final round at Green Tree, giving him a 5-under-par total of 139 and a two-stroke victory over Ricky Montanez. At the same tournament, San Bernardino golfer Rafael Morales achieved an incredibly rare feat — he had two holes-in-one over the course of the 36-hole event, with the first coming on the 202-yar par-3 eighth hole Saturday and the second one coming on the 172-yard par-3 16th Sunday. Other scores from the second annual Carlsbad City Championship: Batiquitos Flight (up to a 1 handicap, gross) Sejoon Yoon, 138 Raghan Wahi, 140 Greg Garcia, 146 San Elijo Flight (2-8 handicap, net) Parker Huston, 144 Mark Niess, 145 Martin Junor, 146 Palomar Flight (8 and above handicap, net) John Usilton, 138 John Ackerman, 146 David Pennington, 150 |
