![]() The LPGA Tour is heading to Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort for the 2011 Kia Classic (Pictured: Zaharias Course). After the inaugural full-field event was held at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad earlier this year, the tournament has decided to move to Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort in the Los Angeles area for 2011. A formal announcement will be made at Industry Hills this Saturday. Michelle Wie, two-time LPGA winner and Kia spokesperson, is expected to be on hand. It is not known exactly why the Kia Classic has left La Costa. There had been a multi-year contract in place for the event to be held at the North San Diego County venue, which has hosted a variety of marquee professional tournaments over the years. Korea’s Hee Kyung Seo, who gained entry into the Kia Classic via sponsor’s exemption, won the title by a comfortable six-shot margin. This is the second time in the last two years an LPGA Tour event has moved from the San Diego area after hosting a tournament once. In 2009, the South Course at Torrey Pines welcomed the limited-field Samsung World Championship, only to see the event fold shortly thereafter after Samsung elected not to renew its title sponsorship agreement. The 2011 Kia Classic Presented by J Golf will be a 72-hole event. Tournament week begins Monday, March 21, with competition commencing Thursday, March 24. One of the most acclaimed golf destinations in the Los Angeles area, Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation a few years ago. The City of Industry facility was recently honored as the Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association. It has yet to be announced which of the two courses at Industry Hills — the Eisenhower and/or the Zaharias — will be used in the event. Tickets for the event are already on sale and can be purchased by visiting the LPGA website.
