The Kia Classic presented by J Golf has given a sponsor exemption to Tiffany Joh, a Rancho Bernardo resident beginning her first full year on the Duramed Futures Tour, the LPGA’s developmental tour. “I’m super overwhelmed right now,” said Joh, who was in attendance at Tuesday’s Kia Classic media day. “I was already ready for my Plan B, which was [playing in] the Duramed Futures Tour event in Mexico (during the same week of the Kia Classic), but this is way better!” Joh, who turned professional last summer and captured medalist honors at last fall’s Futures qualifying tournament, had a decorated amateur career. One of only five two-time winners of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links (2006 and 2008), Joh became the first player in UCLA women’s golf history to earn All-America honors four times. A two-time Pac-10 Player of the Year winner, the 23-year-old also competed for the U.S. in the 2008 Curtis Cup. At Rancho Bernardo High School, she was twice named to the All-North County team, and in 2002, she was selected the San Diego Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. She has made the cut in two previous LPGA Tour events — the 2007 Safeway Classic and last year’s Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, where she finished tied for 21st. Two other sponsor exemptions for the Kia Classic presented by J Golf will be announced soon. Brener Zwikel contributed to this report.
