Lee Lopez of Whittier won the Los Angeles Women's City Championship on Sunday, July 12. Lopez, a member of the women's golf team at Long Beach State University, carded rounds of 71-69 at Rancho Park Golf Course in Los Angeles for her second consecutive win in the 36-hole event. Her 2-under-par 140 bested runner-up Joy Trotter (Chino Hills) by five shots. Lopez's 69 in the second round marked the only sub-70 effort of the tournament. Angela Villela (North Hollywood) finished third at 146, while Sharon Park (Irvine) and junior standout Rebecca Song (Fullerton) tied for fourth at 148. Diane Kwon, who won the Long Beach Women's City Championship in June, finished alone in fifth at 150. Christi Whittemore of Costa Mesa won the A flight, finishing at a net score of 149. B flight champion Fari Abdullah-Canetty of Toluca Lake shot a net 151 to win by four shots. In the C flight, Linda Wong (Los Angeles) won by two strokes at net 150.
