In fact, much of her focus will be on two golf-related ventures with roots in Southern California. One is the Lorena Ochoa Golf Foundation, whose first event was held at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort last month. Ochoa started the foundation to grow golf through diversity. The foundation plans to hold an annual Southland event, and “all of our programs will be piloted in Southern California before spreading across the country,” said Jason Taylor, the foundation CEO who also is president of the Southern California PGA. In addition, a series of Lorena Ochoa Golf Academies is in the works, with the first set to begin construction at Mira Loma’s Goose Creek Golf Club within the next few months. The Foundation has already received attention because of Ochoa’s top-ranked status. Its mission, Taylor said, is “to grow the game of golf through diversity, focused on people from underrepresented demographics, both in terms of golf careers and playing golf.” The foundation is Ochoa’s way of helping grow the game that has benefited her life in so many ways, Taylor said. Part of its mission is to bring the game into non-traditional areas, which Taylor describes as “rolling out the golf welcome mat at soccer tournaments, carnival areas, little league events and going directly into the school districts.” |
