Marc Zien of Encinitas defeated San Francisco’s Ji Hwan Park on Sunday, June 14 in the final of the Long Beach Match Play Championship at Skylinks Golf Course. The 29-year-old Zien beat the 20-year-old Park 1-up in the 36-hole final at Skylinks Golf Course. Zien was ahead by four holes with six holes to play, but Park, who went to high school in Fullerton, stormed back and had a chance to tie Zien on the last hole. However, his 18-foot birdie bid came up short. Zien, an employee of Callaway Golf in Carlsbad, will compete in the Long Beach Open, scheduled to begin July 30. This event was part of the Long Beach Golf Festival, which continues this week with the Women’s City Championship on Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19. |
