Mickelson to make first appearance at Skins Game since 2003

Sergio Garcia offered invitation to compete, but hasn’t given formal response

By Eli MillerPublished: June, 2008

The oldest event of the “Silly Season” just got a significant boost of star power.

San Diego native Phil Mickelson, the No. 2 golfer in the world, has committed to play in the 2008 LG Skins Game, which will be held Nov. 29-30 at Indian Wells Golf Resort.

Mickelson last competed at the Skins Game in 2003, finishing third with five skins and $170,000.

Two-time defending champion Stephen Ames will join Mickelson as the second competitor in the four-man field, with the other two spots to be decided in the near future. The tournament committee said it has extended an invitation to Spain’s Sergio Garcia, who has yet to accept or deny the offer.

This year marks the 26th edition of the Skins Game, which was first held in 1983.
