![]() Youngsters competed in last year's final at Monarch Beach Golf Links. That’s one of the draws of the second OC Junior Golf Championship, which allows top participants to play on three Orange County tracks over the course of 54 holes. What also makes the event attractive is that all competitors must use a caddie, a requirement Steve Plummer feels gives the tournament a fun and professional vibe. “Having a friend, parent or coach as a caddie makes it unique,” said Plummer, founder of the OC Golf Coast Foundation. “We want to make it an enjoyable event for the kids to play in.” The tournament will be held from Jan. 5-7, with a kickoff banquet on Jan. 4. Six of the seven member courses of the Orange County Golf Coast consortium will serve as host sites for seven groupings. In the first two days of qualifying, the boys 16-18 and 14-15 age divisions will alternate between Yorba Linda’s Black Gold Golf Club and Fullerton’s Coyote Hills Golf Course; girls 15-18 and 12-14 and boys 12-13 will alternate between Irvine’s Strawberry Farms Golf Club and Dana Point’s Monarch Beach Golf Links; and boys and girls 9-11 will play nine holes each day at Aliso Creek Inn. Approximately 60 of the top players (depending on field sizes) will qualify for the 18-hole title round at Tustin Ranch Golf Club. Registration for the 12-and-up age group is $275, and the fee for those in 9-11 divisions is $175. Partial proceeds from the tournament go to the OC Golf Coast Foundation, aimed at bringing golf to all youths of Orange County.
