UCLA freshman Taylor Travis shot an even-par 142 to win the 11th annual Orange County Golf Championship, which was held May 16 and 17 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine. Travis, a Northern California native, put together rounds of 74-68 in the two-day event to top first-round leader Jay Won (70-74) by two strokes. James Lam (74-72) finished another two strokes back to claim third place. “I was very pleased with the event overall,” said Strawberry Farms PGA Head Golf Professional Tom McCray. “It’s always amazing that these guys can shoot such good scores the way the golf course is set up. With the tees all the way back and the pins tucked it was quite a test.” The field featured 97 players competing in four divisions. Yuji Hiraoka (70-75) won the A Flight by two shots over Chris Heimler, while Edward Kacic shot 78-89 to capture the B Flight by a shot over Greg Stewart (89-70). The C Flight was won by Tim Burke in a playoff over Dave Degenhardt. Both players finished with a 173 total. Next up for Strawberry Farms is the Irvine City Championship, set for July 18-19.
