LA QUINTA, Calif.—Rookie Alex Prugh and veteran Bubba Watson share the lead at 23-under par through four rounds of the PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Classic, with Bill Haas and Tim Clark both a stroke back at 22-under. Each of those four players is seeking his first Tour win. They will play Monday’s final round on the Palmer Private course at PGA West, marking only the third time in event history that the final round has been contested past Sunday (the other years were 1978 and 1980). There is an intriguing quartet of players tied for sixth at 20-under par, including 2003 Hope champion Mike Weir, Matt Kuchar and Kevin Streelman, who has shot 63-64 in his last two rounds. The Southern Californian closest to the lead is Long Beach native John Merrick, who shot his second consecutive 66 Sunday to move into a tie for 11th at 18-under par. Former Diamond Bar resident Kevin Na is another stroke back in 17th at 17-under. Other local notables: • Barring a round for the ages from Pat Perez on Monday, it appears Johnny Miller is safe as the only repeat winner in Bob Hope Classic history. Perez, a former San Diego resident, shot a 2-under 70 in the fourth round and is tied for 43rd at 13-under par. • Long Beach's Paul Goydos had five birdies at La Quinta Country Club, but a double bogey on the par-3 seventh forced him to settle for a 3-under 69. He's 14-under par and tied for 36th. • Rancho Santa Fe resident and former USC men's golf team member Jamie Lovemark may not have exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2010, but he will still earn a paycheck on Tour this week. The youngster shot a 3-under-par 69 on the Nicklaus Private course at PGA West Sunday, reaching 11-under and ensuring his place inside the cut line. He'll enter the final round tied for 55th. • Those missing the cut include 2007 champ and Poway native Charley Hoffman (7-under par), Torrance's Chris Tidland (2-under), Escondido native John Mallinger (even par), and Murrieta's Rickie Fowler (6-over par).
