Southern Californians Rickie Fowler, Cameron Tringale and Chris Riley all earned full-exempt status on the PGA Tour for 2010 by finishing inside the top 25 at the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School, which concluded Monday at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Fowler, a Murrieta native who turned professional earlier this year, shot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round of the 108-hole event to finish tied for 15th at 11-under par. At one point in the third round, the 20-year-old actually held the lead in the event — but he began the final round tied for 21st, right on the cut line for PGA Tour cards. Laguna Niguel’s Tringale made one of the largest moves Monday, shooting a 5-under 67 to vault from a tie for 42nd into a tie for 19th. On the other hand, Riley nearly played himself out of contention with a final-round 76. Beginning the day comfortably in a tie for fourth, the San Diegan bogeyed the 14th, 15th and 16th holes on the Lakes Course to almost fall out of contention before making birdie on the par-5 17th to stabilize his position inside the top 25. Murrieta resident Tom Pernice, who turned 50 this year and already has exempt status for the Champions Tour in 2010, came to the last hole on the Lakes Course in position to earn his PGA Tour card but hit his drive in the water and made double-bogey to conclude one stroke short at 8-under par. Results for other notable Southern Californians: • Valencia’s Jason Gore shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to finish tied for 48th. Because the 35-year-old finished outside the top 150 on the 2009 money list, he likely will be spending a significant portion of his 2010 schedule on the Nationwide Tour. • Idyllwild native Brendan Steele, who now resides in Irvine, rebounded from an opening 79 with rounds of 72-69-69-69-70 and also end in 48th. • Former UCLA golfer Brandt Jobe finished tied for 64th at 3-under par.
