Despite struggling to a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, Parker McLachlin was still comfortably able to say “Aloha” to the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour. The Hawaii native and UCLA graduate won his first career Tour event by seven strokes over the weekend, riding the momentum of three sub-70 rounds heading to Sunday for the victory. One of those was a 10-under 62 in the second round, tying the course record at Montreux Golf & Country Club. “It feels like it has been a lifetime coming. It has been a dream of mine since I was about 12,” McLachlin told reporters after the triumph. “This is a huge stepping stone for me.” The 29-year-old registered an 18-under 270 total, besting John Rollins and Brian Davis, who each ended at 11-under. McLachlin now has a two-year PGA Tour exemption, a more comfortable seeding heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs, and a spot in this week’s PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. It will be his first major since he qualified for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in 2004. For the latest golf news from around Southern California, be sure to check back daily to Southland Golf. |
