This Labor Day weekend, from September 3-6, dozens of Southern California golf facilities are again participating in Patriot Golf Day. The unique fund-raising opportunity benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of male and female service members either killed or disabled in action. For rounds of golf played at participating facilities during this time period, golfers are asked to donate a minimum of $1 on top of their green fees. In the past three years, Patriot Golf Day has raised more than $5.4 million and awarded more than 1,100 scholarships. Many golf courses throughout Southern California will have special events coinciding with this fund-raising campaign. Corona's Champions Club at The Retreat is hosting the fourth annual Patriot Cup on Labor Day, September 6. There will be prize drawings, contests on the golf course and a live auction. Champions Club was recognized by the Patriot Day Golf organization as one of 25 top performers in 2009. Simi Hills Golf Course in Simi Valley began requesting donations on Monday, August 30. On Sunday, September 5, the facility will have a “Beat the Cart Kid” competition open to those golfers who make donations. Golfers whose tee shots are closer to the pin than the cart kid’s shot will win a dozen golf balls, while all golfers whose tee shots stay on the green will win a sleeve of golf balls.
