Phil Mickelson is returning to the PGA Tour this month, according to GolfWorld’s Tim Rosaforte. Mickelson, a Rancho Santa Fe resident and the world’s No. 2 golfer, had missed the last two events after learning his wife, Amy, had breast cancer. Mickelson will play in next week’s St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. and the following week’s U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York. It had been rumored that Mickelson would miss more time due to the scheduling of his wife’s surgery. Sources told Rosaforte that Amy’s surgery now should take place some time in either late June or early July, consequently freeing up Phil’s schedule for much of June. During the third round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Tex., players, fans and tournament officials participated in a “Pink Out,” showing awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink clothing and donning pink ribbons. “This incredible gesture helps us feel so much stronger,” Amy Mickelson said in a statement.
