Roger Tambellini has put himself in excellent position to return to the PGA Tour in 2010. The 34-year-old native of San Luis Obisp finished tied for second at the Nationwide Tour Players Cup in Bridgeport, West Virginia on Sunday, June 28 off the strength of a 4-under-par 68 in the final round at Pete Dye Golf Club. Tambellini started the last day tied for 11th after rounds of 69-70-69. Tom Gillis won with a 15-under-par total, three strokes better than Tambellini. Australian Cameron Percy also finished in second at 12-under. Tambellini, who graduated from USC in 1998, took home $52,800, a sum that moved him from 41st to 17th on the 2009 Nationwide Tour money list. The top 25 players at season’s end gain exempt status on the PGA Tour for 2010. Tambellini has made the cut in 19 of 53 career PGA Tour events. He qualified for the Tour in both 2004 and 2006 by virtue of his standing on the Nationwide Tour money list in the respective previous seasons.
