Hunter Mahan will be making his first Ryder Cup appearance.
United States Ryder Cup team captain Paul Azinger completed his 12-man squad with four at-large selections Tuesday morning, and his quartet includes Orange native Hunter Mahan.

The 26-year-old Mahan, who will be making his first appearance at the biennial matches that will be held Sept. 19-21 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., joins Steve Stricker, J.B. Holmes and Chad Campbell as captain’s picks.

“I'm so grateful that captain Azinger has given me this opportunity,” said Mahan. “I'm looking forward to every minute, every second of it.”

Though Mahan made some disparaging remarks about the Ryder Cup earlier this year in an interview with Golf.com, he’s had an opportunity to reconcile with Azinger and the PGA of America, which co-organizes the Ryder Cup with the PGA European Tour.

“I think that we have all moved on from those comments,” Mahan said.

Other Southern California natives on the American squad are San Diego’s Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim, who was born in the Los Angeles area and played high school golf in Palm Desert.
