![]() Stubbs, who is the PGA head golf professional at Vista Valley Country Club, becomes the 34th president of the Southern California PGA. The position carries a two-year term. The other officers of the SCPGA include Vice President/Treasurer Jason Taylor, who serves as the PGA general manager of Jurupa Hills Country Club and Jeff Johnson, who serves as the PGA general manager of Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Club. Ron O’Connor received the Section’s highest honor when he was named Golf Professional of the Year. O’Connor is a 38-year member of the PGA. He has served the Section in many capacities, including Executive Director and Tournament Director. Since retiring in 2001, he has remained an active member of the association by leading the Section’s Senior Division. He also serves on the Section Board of Directors, Tournament Committee and the Rules Committee. Other award winners include Andy Thuney of Hacienda Golf Club, who was granted Honorary Life Member status; Kip Puterbaugh of the Aviara Golf Academy, Teacher of the Year; Dave Whitby of Hacienda Golf Club, Assistant Golf Professional of the Year; Kim Schilling of Bear Creek Golf Club, who was presented the Horton Smith Award for her contribution to PGA member education; Derek Hardy of Talega Golf Club, who received the Bill Strausbaugh Award for his contributions to the growth of his fellow PGA professionals; Joe Simonds of Woodhaven Country Club, Junior Golf Leader; and Susan Roll of the Carlsbad Golf Center, who was named Clubfitter of the Year. Merchandisers of the Year included Jeremy Clevenger of Bear Creek Golf Club in the private facility category, Russ Onizuka of the PGA of Southern California Golf Club in the public facility category, and Renny Brown of the Four Seasons Aviara Resort in the resort category. |
