Morgan Run hosting ClubCorp Charity Classic, Crossings at Carlsbad to host Carlsbad City Championship.

BY ELI MILLERPublished: September, 2009

The Crossings at Carlsbad will host the second annual Carlsbad City Championship on November 7-8.
Morgan Run Club & Resort will be one of several host facilities for the ClubCorp Charity Classic on September 25. Morning tennis festivities give way to a shotgun golf tournament at 1 p.m. and a reception with wine tasting and live music at 6 p.m. All proceeds go to the Employee Care Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Augie’s Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s cause for finding a cure to Lou Gehrig’s disease. Participating in each event has a certain cost. For golf, it’s $100 per person. For more information, or to sign up, visit clubcorpcharityclassic.com.

The Crossings at Carlsbad will play host to the Carlsbad City Championship November 7-8. To find out more about the two-day shotgun event, call the pro shop at (760) 444-1800. The Crossings also has a variety of special food and beverage events for the remainder of 2009.

Oaks North, a 27-hole executive facility just east of the Rancho Bernardo Inn, is hosting glowball events on three upcoming Saturdays — September 5, September 26 and October 10. The four-person scrambles are $70 and include all glowball supplies and access to a buffet catered by Oggi’s Italian restaurant.

• Escondido’s Eagle Crest Golf Club will begin construction on new tee boxes for the fourth, eighth and 17th holes later this year. The new boxes should add about 25-30 yards on each hole and increase the layout’s total length to over 6,500 yards from the tips.

Woods Valley recently opened a daily outdoor grill, with menu items including hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches and breakfast burritos.

• Rick Hamilton is the new director of golf, tournaments, events and marketing at Escondido’s Meadow Lake Golf Club. “I saw a lot of potential here, and it’s been fun to make it grow,” said Hamilton, who previously designed putters for F2 Golf.

Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club will have a booth at the Bridal Bizarre at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 4. The club also will hold a bridal fair at its facility on Sunday, October 11.
