With an 11-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, K.J. Choi sealed the title at the 2008 LG Skins Game with six total skins and $415,000 over the weekend on the Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort. Choi is the first rookie to win since Stephen Ames turned the trick in 2006, and he also is the first Korean victor. Ames, who also won the event in 2007, was looking to join Payne Stewart as the only player to win the tournament in three straight years. Ames logged the same number of skins as Choi by virtue of a birdie on No. 10 (a five-hole carryover), but only garnered a total of $250,000. This year marked the first time since 2002 that each one of the event’s four competitors won at least one skin, with the other two competitors — San Diego native Phil Mickelson (four skins, $195,000) and Rocco Mediate (two skins, $140,000) — each finishing in the money.
