Woods to speak publicly Friday at 8 a.m.

News conference at PGA Tour headquarters will mark first live statement since late November car accident.

BY ELI MILLERPublished: February, 2010

Cypress native Tiger Woods is coming back — for a news conference.

Woods, the world’s No. 1 golfer who has been on an indefinite hiatus from golf, will be speaking in a live news conference from the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — home of PGA Tour headquarters — on Friday, February 19 at 8:00 a.m. PST.

A limited number of media will be present, reports the Associated Press.

"This is all about the next step," said Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent, to the Associated Press. "He's looking forward to it."

In the wake of a car accident in the early morning on Friday, November 27 and subsequent allegations of multiple extramarital affairs, Woods has released two statements via his official website, tigerwoods.com. One acknowledged “transgressions” and the other announced he would be taking an indefinite hiatus from competitive golf.

Since then, rumors surfaced he was in treatment for sex addiction at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Woods: I have let my family down

Readers Feedback:

Tiger didn't let me down; I am not waiting for to apologize to me. His apologies to his wife, his children and his mother, those are private matters and better done without a press conference. Will I cheer when he returns to play and begins winning again? Probably. Will his family remain marked by his poor behavior? Most certainly. But then, Tiger was never my role model.

Bad timing. He could do it on a Monday and not during a tournament day. The LPGA is finally on Friday and his assinine controlled apology will delay or cancel it. What an ego maniac. No questions? Jerk, Stay in Florida and permanently give up the game.

Who really cares! Just another egotistical sports figure that seems to forget they are a roll model. This moronic society seems able to overlook major sports figures failings and celebrate them. Never was a fan, still not a fan. Do I envy his ability to play golf, yes, do I envy him as a person or respect him, no! In my streets education of business and life, once a liar, always a liar. He should give up golf and become a politician.
