In the wake of raging wildfires throughout San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties, Trump National Golf Club has announced that a portion of all green fees received between November 1 and December 15 will be donated to the Salvation Army. The idea was spawned Tuesday morning as golf course brass conversed with Donald Trump, who has had a history of cooperation with the organization. “We thought, ‘Why don’t we try to help the victims,’” said David Conforti, PGA head professional at the Palos Verdes facility. “It all helps.” Conforti estimates that around $10,000 will be generated for donation within the designated time frame. The Salvation Army will then allocate the funds to areas with the most need in Southern California. In addition, those who play during that time will receive a certificate to play Trump National for $195 any time through June 30, 2008, a savings of up to 50 percent. As of early Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of Southland residents had evacuated their homes due to the wildfires. Blazes destroyed numerous structures and threatened many golf courses, including the TPC at Valencia and Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook. Many golf courses have closed, including all in San Diego County. “We’re thinking less about business levels and more how it will affect people personally,” Conforti said. |
