Cameron Tringale The Laguna Niguel native had an impressive career at Georgia Tech, winning four times, including becoming the first Tech freshman ever to win the Atlantic Coast Conference title. He qualified for the U.S. Open earlier in the year, but missed the cut. Rickie Fowler Shortly after announcing he would be turning pro this fall, the Murrieta resident nearly won the Nationwide Tour’s Children’s Hospital Invitational, losing in a sudden-death playoff to Derek Lamely. As a freshman at Oklahoma State, Fowler not only won the Phil Mickelson Award for freshman of the year, but he became the only frosh to ever win the Ben Hogan Award, which recognizes the Outstanding Male Amateur and Collegiate Golfer of the Year. He is playing in this fall's Soboba Classic, the newest event on the Nationwide Tour schedule. Austin Graham The incoming junior at UC-Davis sophomore and San Clemente native has had a superb summer, winning the Long Beach Men’s City Championship by eight shots, then winning the SCGA Amateur Championship the following week. Plus, Graham finished runner-up at the SCGA Match Play Championship earlier this month and earned medalist honors at his U.S. Amateur sectional qualifying site, shooting a 4-under-par 140 at Red Hill Country Club. Jason Bittick In addition to finishing runner-up at this year’s SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, the 41-year-old Ladera Ranch resident reached the quarterfinals at the California Amateur Championship and was the medalist at his U.S. Amateur sectional qualifying site—shooting a 3-under-par 141 at Glendora Country Club. Bittick followed that with a four-shot victory at the Costa Mesa City Championship. Sam Cyr The Hawaii native and former Point Loma Nazarene player ended his college days in grand style, winning his second consecutive NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship crown in May. Cyr was also a four-time first-team All-American and had 12 victories over the course of his collegiate career. Jay Hwang After finishing runner-up to Jordan Spieth at the U.S. Junior Amateur, Hwang an incoming high school junior in San Diego, will be looking for another chance to thrive on a national stage. He comes in with momentum, having just won the California State Junior Amateur. Gregor Main Main compiled a solid freshman campaign at UCLA, finishing second on the Bruins with a 72.7 stroke average. He also got a taste of a PGA Tour event earlier this year, qualifying for the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines and making the cut. Matt Hoffenberg This incoming junior at San Diego State University was the first Aztec to earn the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year award. He has solid experience in major amateur events, finishing runner-up at the 2008 California Amateur Championship and winning the SCGA Match Play Championship that same year. Kevin Dougherty The former standout at Vista Murrieta High School won this year’s CIF Southern California Regional Championship by sinking a clutch birdie put on the first playoff hole. He will be a member of the men’s golf team at Oklahoma State University this fall. Tim Hogarth The 43-year-old Northridge resident is a constant threat on the amateur circuit. He has won four events this year, including the Pasadena City Championship and the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, his third time winning the event.
