The Ultimate Game pushed from March 6 to April 29

By ELI MILLERPublished: February, 2008

The Ultimate Game, a match-play tournament with 64 teams vying for $1 million, has been rescheduled and now will be contested from Tuesday, April 29 through Sunday, May 4.

Initially slated to begin March 6 at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta, the event was pushed back due to a conflict some competitors faced with the Gateway Tour Championship, which also begins that day.

“This tournament has always been for and all about the players, so when we heard from players about the conflict with the Gateway Tour Championship, we agreed to do whatever was necessary to accommodate them by rescheduling our tournament,” said Steve Bartkowski, who co-founded the event with Jim Thomas.

All other elements for The Ultimate Game remain unchanged, except that the deadline to register at the reduced rate of $50,000 has been extended to this Friday, February 29.

Any golfer who has not held fully exempt status on a “major” tour over the last five years, has never won an event on a major tour, or has played in less than five major tour events since March 3, 2007 is allowed to compete.

Plus, all female players are eligible to enter – that guideline has already been seen with the announcement that famed instructor Jim McLean and one of his star pupils, reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion Cristie Kerr, will compete. The ladies will compete from the same tees as the men.

The $2.4 million event will still be televised on The Golf Channel.
