LA QUINTA, Calif.—Significant changes are in store for the 2008 Ultimate Game, one of which is a change of venue to the Stadium Course at La Quinta’s PGA West. Founded by former NFL All-Pro quarterback Steve Bartkowski and attorney Jim Thomas, The Ultimate Game will pit 64 two-person teams in match play for a chance to win $1 million. The six rounds of matches will be contested March 6-11 at the former home of the Skins Game. “We are really excited about our new home at the PGA West Stadium Course,” said Bartkowski. “I’ve been to La Quinta, and I’ve played PGA West. They are both truly superb. This is the best partnership we could have hoped for.” For the remainder of this year, the entry fee is $50,000 per team. In 2008, it will rise to $60,000. In the 2007 installment of The Ultimate Game, individuals paid $50,000 for a chance to win $2 million in a format that utilized both stroke play and match play. Any golfer who has not held fully exempt status on a “major” tour over the last five years, has never won an event on a major tour, or has played in less than five major tour events since March 3, 2007 is allowed to compete. Plus, all female players are eligible to enter — that guideline has already been seen with the recent announcement that famed instructor Jim McLean and one of his star pupils, reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion Cristie Kerr, will compete. The ladies will compete from the same tees as the men. For more information, visit theultimategame.com. |
