Cancer for College will stage its 16th annual Golf Classic on Friday, September 18 at San Diego’s Rancho Bernardo Inn and actor Will Ferrell will once again return as host. Cancer for College was formed in 1993 by two-time cancer survivor and double amputee, Craig Pollard. Pollard and Ferrell were fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California. Since its inception, Ferrell has been a devoted supporter of the charity and has served as the celebrity host of Cancer for College fund-raising events since 2002. Overall, the charity has granted over $600,000 to more than 500 survivors. "It's an event I really look forward to," said Ferrell. "It's such a pure charity. The stories of the cancer survivors are so inspiring. What they are able to accomplish while dealing with so much makes me feel like such a slacker. This event is one of the highlights of my year." "We are so honored that Will takes time from his incredibly busy schedule to continually support our charity," said Pollard. "Will and his wife Viveca have been so generous with their time and resources through the years. That generosity has allowed us to help significantly more survivors than we could without their involvement." A very limited amount of golf spots and award dinner tickets remain available online at cancerforcollege.org or by calling (760) 599-5096. Golf begins at noon with a 10:00 a.m. registration. The awards dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and features inspirational speeches from scholarship recipients and a hilarious live auction led by Ferrell. Live auction items include field passes and a meet and greet with USC Head Football Coach Pete Carroll, exotic trips and other items. |
