Bubba Watson was born in Bagdad — as in Bagdad, Fla. His dad served in Vietnam, and this power hitter, who averages 315 yards off the tee, supports our troops. “I’d love to go out there and thank them,” he said. Glenn: Where does your power come from? Bubba: When I started, my dad gave me some advice. He said, ‘Swing as hard as you can. Go try that. If you are any good, then you’ll figure out how to hit it straight.’ So I started trying to find the ball with the clubface while swinging hard. Glenn: What did you do to become a better player? Bubba: I love to play golf. I just played. I learned shots by playing. I learned what different shots were required in different situations. I learned the shots necessary for tournament play. Glenn: Do you have a swing thought? Bubba: I visualize. If it’s a dogleg right, I just try to fade it a bit. I try to curve it that way. Glenn Monday can be reached at (310) 322-8924. |
